Customizing a Monopoly Game
What languages or countries are represented by specific Monopoly games?
The Monopoly game is licensed in more than 45 countries and the list continues to grow. The 26 languages in which the game is printed included: Italian, Indian, Arabic, Portuguese, Croatian, Czech, Icelandic and Russian. Most foreign editions adopt their own currency and property names -- for example, Boardwalk becomes Mayfair in England, Rue de la Paix in France and Schlossallee in Germany. The National Federation of the Blind used a Braille edition, once, but the edition was never published publicly. We have no foreign language or overseas editions available for sale in the United States, nor can the games be purchased directly through Hasbro.
I need to sell a hotel in order to pay a large rent in the Monopoly game but there are no available houses. What can I do?
You'd like to sell one hotel and exchange it for four houses. But there are no houses left (or not enough to build evenly on the property). In order to get any money at all, you must dismantle your property ""evenly."". You must sell all three of your hotels and replace them with whatever houses may be available. Remember you collect half the value of the hotels when sold back to the bank.
Building shortages play a key role in a game played by smart players. To put it simply, if the bank has no houses, you can't buy any. And unless you physically have four houses on each property of a monopoly-or the houses required to reach a total of four per lot are available in the bank-you cannot buy and build hotels.
Do I still collect $200 in Monopoly, if, after passing "GO", I land on Community Chest and pick the "Go To Jail" card?
In Monopoly, how do I get out of Jail? Do I have to use the Get Out of Jail Free card?
You have 3 options:
- Pay $50 at the start of your next turn, then roll and move as normal.
- Use a Get Out of Jail Free card at the start of your next turn if you have one (or buy one from another player). Put the card at the bottom of the appropriate deck, then roll and move.
- Roll doubles on your next turn. If you do, you’re free! Use the roll to move, and that’s the end of your turn. You can use up to 3 turns to try for doubles. If you don’t roll doubles by your third turn in Jail, pay $50, and use your last roll to move.
